  1. Lloyd Peterson says:

Three of my favorite movies that have in common that I read the book well before seeing the movie. First “Pascali’s Island” based on a book originally titled “The Idol Hunter.” Every federal employee should read the first page as Pascali laments writing memoranda for thirty years without response. Second, “Joe” based on a book of the same name by former fireman Larry Brown (nearly as famous in Oxford, Mississippi as Falkner. This book is about a way of life of very poor and very left out Southerners. And third, “The Hunter,” also based on a book of the same name, written by Julia Leigh (first book). Each of these movies has a well known actor playing the lead role. A movie that I also enjoyed, but doesn’t seem to be based on a book is “The Duelists” and it is the first film directed by Ridley Scott.
