Installing Swing Sets in the Rwenzori Mountains

While in Uganda in July of this year, my family and locals started the installation of a swing set at a small school (Lower Kalonge) in the Rwenzori Mountains (aka Mountains of the Moon) above Kasese.  Getting the swing parts to the site was no easy task.  Over the last few miles, the pipe and other parts had to be manually carried.  Unfortunately, we were unable to complete the project because we didn’t have enough swing hangers and pendulums.

After we left, we provided the parts so the swing set could be finished.

We also provided the parts for an additional swing set at Upper Kalonge, located even higher in the mountains.  Recently our local contact–Chrispus Mbusa–made the necessary arrangements and supervised the second installation.  According to him:

We have installed the swing for Upper Kalonge p/s.  It was 4 hours travel on foot and every one was very
tired [from transporting the equipment] with heavy rains in the area.  Parents, teachers, and children are very thankful to you for the great donation, they said they want to see you face to face and say: THANK YOU.  I became a small Roger and handed the swings to them on your behalf !!

There are other village schools high in the Rwenzori’s, so our work has just begun.
