Outdoor Musical Instruments for Schools and Playgrounds

On a recent trip to the Four-corners region of the western United States, a friend and I stopped at the headquarters of Freenotes Harmony Park, a manufacturer of outdoor percussive instruments.  They are located in the tourist mecca of Durango, Colorado.

My family and friends install playgrounds systems around the world.  Our installations to date have mainly involved standard playground equipment like swing sets and teeter totters.  But we are always looking for ways to expand opportunities to play.  And outdoor musical instruments provide interesting diversity.

While in Durango, we visited a small ensemble of outdoor musical instruments located in a beautiful city park next to the Animas River.  It is a great addition to a school playground or city park.

I have since visited city parks in Moab and St. George UT where Freenotes instruments are installed.  The percussive instruments at both parks are very popular.

Outdoor musical instruments have also been installed in the Cuzco region, Peru.  We are currently evaluating whether this is a practical option.  Stay tuned.
