Quick Survey of Designer Benches

I’m very interested in the design of developing-country playground equipment.  And an important fixture of any outdoor playground is its benches.  Its a location where kids can observe and rest.  Benches can also be grouped to provide learning opportunities or a place for kids to hang out with friends.

While searching the Internet, I found a variety of designer styles.  They are obviously too expensive for the type of developing-country playgrounds that I work on, but the designs can still provide important ideas for local fabricators.  Here are a few examples:

Most, if not all of these, are products of the design firm, Espresso.

When it comes to playgrounds, I seriously underestimated the importance of design.  So as I head to the Navajo Nation, Peru, and Uganda, I going to seriously consider the design of all the playground equipment that we install.  Of particular importance are culture and color.
